Handwriting worksheets made for your child
Grid & Line makes tracing worksheets from your own words. Type a sentence from a favourite book, a weekly spelling list or a note to grandma, and the sheet is ready in a second: a model line that shows how each letter is formed, dotted lines to trace and an empty line to write alone.
All sheets use upright ball-and-stick print on primary handwriting lines (top line, dashed midline and red baseline), the format used in most US preschool and kindergarten classrooms.
Why tracing works
Tracing lets children practise the movement of a letter before they have to remember its shape. Starting each letter at the right point and moving in the right direction builds automatic habits, which later free up attention for spelling and ideas. Good tracing practice is short, regular and followed by writing without the guide, which is why every model here can be followed by an empty row.
Tips for parents and teachers
- Little and often. Five to ten minutes a day beats one long session a week.
- Watch the start. The green dots show where each stroke begins. Correct the starting point gently; neatness comes later.
- Use real words. Children are more motivated to write their own name, their pet's name or a sentence about their day.
- Reuse sheets. Slide a page into a sheet protector and trace with a dry-erase marker.
